Truro town guide
Truro, the county town of Cornwall, is a beatiful Cathedral City, straddling the River Fal. It was an important port in the Middle Ages. The Cathedral's 250 foot spire dominates the city.
A pleasant day trip from here is a trip down the river to Falmouth. There are many National Trust properties and gardens nearby - Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Antony are magnificent country houses, and Trellisick and Glendurgan are beautiful gardens. You can also visit the Cornish Mines and Engines near Redruth.
The Eden Project is a must-see for anyone visiting this area. Here the world's plants are brought to Cornwall - from Tropical Rainforests to Mediterranean regions all under two enormous Biomes-giant greenhouses. For walkers, the South West Coast Path runs for 630 miles around the coast of this area, from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset. The beaches of this area are some of the best in the country and can only be explored by car - if necessary hire a car and make the most of this wonderful area!
