Streatham town guide
Streatham
As a suburb of London, Streatham is always going to be overshadowed by that great city with all the facilities and attractions available there. Streatham is part of the London Borough of Lambeth, famous or Lambeth Palace and the Lambeth Walk of the song from the Musical.
Close to Streatham there are a number of attractive open spaces where one escape from the bustle of the town. Crystal Palace Park is a delightful place just for a stroll and an ice cream. This is reputed to be the site of the first fatal motor accident in Britain back in 1898, not something to celebrate.
Streatham Common is another beautiful green space with lots of activities organised year round, such as a kite festival and a visiting circus.
For a splendid view across London from the south of the river visit Brockwell Park and Lido, another oasis of calm in the busy metropolis.
There is clearly no shortage of shops of all kinds and many exotic restaurants in the area, however a hire car will allow the visitor to venture out of London and see many of the delights of the south of England.
Places such as Winchester and Brighton are an easy day trip as are Portsmouth and Stonehenge. One need never be bored with all of London on the doorstep and all the other attractive places nearby.
