Southport town guide
A little north of Liverpool, Southport is a pleasant resort with six miles of sandy beaches. It is most well known for Lord Street, a handsome, tree-lined shopping street running parallel to the promenade for over a mile.
The seafront area is very pleasant with the Marine Drive running along the promenade, with a Marine boating lake and Princes Park.
Southport is well known for the annual Southport Flower Show, the Royal Birkdale Golf Club and the Ryder Cup Competition has taken place here occasionally.
At nearby Formby, you can visit the National Trust woodland, home to one of the last groups of Red Squirrels in the U.K.
From Southport, it is very easy to go by rental car to Liverpool, Manchester or further afield up to the Lake District.
