Peterborough town guide
Peterborough has been an important market town since 972. It was thrust into the Industrial revolution with the arrival of steam railways in 1854. Today you can still experience the steam age with a trip on the Nene Valley railway.
Peterborough Museum and Art gallery offer an excellent overview of the area's history. An undiscovered gem, the twelfth century Cathedral contains the tomb of Henry VIII's first wife, Catherine of Aragon. The precincts are an oasis of calm.
The Queensgate Shopping Centre and Westgate Arcade offer excellent shopping facilities.
A rental car gives easy access to lovely countryside and there are plenty of gardens to visit. Peterborough is in a great location and the Millennium Green Wheel gives access to 50 miles of cyclepaths and footpath, some along the banks of the River Nene.
