High Wycombe town guide
High Wycombe is conveniently located within easy reach of London, the Thames Valley and Oxford. The town has experienced something of a boom with the growth of high-tech industries along the Thames Valley. This is something of a contrast to earlier days when the town was the centre of the furniture industry in England. Furniture making remains important to the town, but nowadays it also hosts a variety of important companies in a wealth of new industries.
For the visitor with a hire car the surrounding area has a wealth of beautiful countryside. The Chiltern Hills are just to the north of the town with the Thames Valley to the south and the Vale of Oxford to the west.
The area's has many links with the past; there is Hughenden Manor, Benjamin Disreali's former home, which is now a major National Trust property; the West Wycombe Caves the former venue of the infamous Hellfire Club; and the nearby villages of Penn and Jordans that have connections with America's. The Prime Minister's country retreat Chequers is also on the doorstep.
Just a few miles away are major tourist attractions like Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, Kew Gardens, and the dreaming spires of Oxford itself.
