Montlucon town guide
Visitors by hire car will find Montlucon in the Allier Region of the Auvergne, this is one of the best known and beautiful areas of Central France. This is a sizable town set in the hills above the River Chere which passes through a spectacular gorge about ten minutes walk south from the centre of the town.
There are two chateau to choose from, the more imposing being that of Louis 11 of Bourbon. But, if you have had your fill of war and or gracious living, try the Musee de Music Populaire for an only slightly more contemporary experience as the history of music in homes throughout the World is traced.
As with most traditional French towns, a walk through the Medieval Quarter is worth taking and you will find plenty to watch as you pause for refreshment. There is a pleasant shopping area too, that contains some individual establishments selling a wide variety of goods.
Car Hire visitors who fancy a real treat might like to try the Le Grenier a Sel restaurant, this will not be cheap but will be remembered for a long time.
