Lesparre Medoc town guide
LESPARRE MEDOC
Visitors by hire car who are wine aficionados will be attracted to this area where fine Medoc wines are grown. Situated in Aquitaine bordered by the Garonne Estuary north west of Bordeaux and the Atlantic Ocean, the Medoc peninsula is a haven of forest, marshland and vineyards. Lesparre Medoc is a village placed virtually in the middle. The village has all the amenities required for allowing yourselves to slip into the laid back style of the French summer in this area.
Possibly drag yourself away from your holiday novel and visit some of the many vineyards or caves in the area. As well as the well known Cabernet Sauvignon, search out some of the lesser known grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Carmenere, Merlot Noir and Petit Verdot - all full-bodied, and making for exciting wines. For a special treat visit Chateau Margaux and try some of this famous vintage.
Use your hire car to discover the local oyster beds and, if you are feeling brave, arm yourself with a short sharp knife or special oyster opening tool, buy some direct from the market and take them back to your village haven. If you aren't feeling brave, go to a restaurant!
