Evry town guide
Evry is a suburb of Paris close to the A6 about fifteen Kilometres from the centre. It is in the Essonne department and is the centre of the Diocese. Most visitors travelling by hire car making for Evry will be going to visit the Cathedrale d'Evry. This is a modern building designed by Mario Butto, from outside it has the appearance of a red brick built cylindrical structure topped by a sloping roof adorned with metal trees giving a striking three dimensional effect.
Inside the space appears vast and has similar acoustics to Saint Paul's Cathedral in that a word spoken quietly can be heard throughout the structure due to the dome shape of the roof. The intricate shape is made up of eighty thousand hand placed bricks. Looking into the roof there appears to be a scaffolding like structure which is actually a set of bells.
Evry is also useful to car hire drivers as a base for going into the capital as it is on the public transport system, this puts it within easy reach of such attractions as The Tour Eiffel, the Louvre, Notre Dame and the main shopping areas of Paris, while allowing you to use a quieter hotel than those in the centre.
