Epinal town guide
Epinal
Epinal is situated in the Vosges Mountains on the N57/E23 between Charmes and Remiremont on the banks of the Moselle River. This is an area popular with hikers, climbers and cyclists who enjoy exploring the nearby unspoilt mountains and river valleys.
There are light flowery white wines to be enjoyed in this area, drink them on their own on a sunny day to get the best from them.
It is interesting to visit the Basilique Saint Maurice which was built between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries and then to compare the imposing façade with the simplicity of Eglise Notre Dame au Cierge which is a modern church building completed only fifty of so years ago.
Epinal is sometimes known as La Citee de l'Image as it has a superb Musee de l'Image which charts the development of the "image" throughout the ages and puts on splendid contemporary photographic exhibitions. This is probably the, "must see", attraction for car hirers visiting the town.
It is likely that as you drive your hire car away from Epinal you will be looking at the beautiful surroundings with a slightly different eye.
