Dinard town guide
If you are exploring the North Coast of Brittany by hire car will find Dinard between Saint Briac sur Mer and Saint Malo on the coast road. In the nineteenth century there were some well to do British who realised that it was not necessary to go all the way down to the Cote D'Azure to find a pleasant climate and continental ambience. They may, of course have tried Deauville and not got on with the Parisians! Suffice it to say that they developed their own stylish resort here on the Brettonne coast.
During the Summer months Dinard comes to life with a succession of Festivals, exhibitions and other activities to attract a far wider range of tourists than in previous centuries.
Water sports enthusiasts can take wind surfing (planche a voile) lessons or hire kayaks form The Wishbone Club next to the swimming pool.
Dinard is on the other side of the River Rance from Saint Malo and it is worth taking a walk along the cliffs from where you can watch the ferries and other boats entering and leaving the harbour.
For Museum fans, try the one at Chateau de la Duchesse Anne in nearby Dinan. Another visit worth making in your hire car is to the Barrage de la Rance where the intricacies of hydro-electricity are explained.
