Dax town guide
Travelling through this area by hire car you will find Dax situated on the N 124 from Bayonne. Perhaps if you have been travelling for a while and the aches and pains are beginning to make themselves felt, you will appreciate the hot springs which combine with the mud from the River Ardour at sixty four degrees centigrade. Dax has been a health giving spa town since Roman Times when it was known as Aquae Tarbellicae . You will find the Dax Spa on the Boulevarde Carnot although there are various others available too.
The town has a fine thirteenth century cathedral, a park situated on the old ramparts which date from the fifth century. and the usual town museum. There are also some attractions which are special to Dax. You could take a boat on the river following the route taken by the Armagnac traders. There is also an aviation museum on the road to the Airport. If you are a fine art enthusiast, you will enjoy the museum which uniquely specialises in figurative sculpture from between the wars.
Dax is situated in beautiful pine forest, take you hire car and head south west towards Pays D'Orthe and you might enjoy Marqueze in Sartres which is a fascinating eco-museum.
