Biscarrosse town guide
The Landes Region, South of Bordeaux is not the best known in France but this area has a lot to offer the discerning visitor. On the coast south of Arcachon, Biscarrosse is really three places in one. Biscarrosse Plage is the beach, a stretch of delightful clean sand where the Atlantic rollers hit the shore. Good for kite flying, swimming, fishing or building those intricate structures in sand that keep parents amused while the children look on bemused.
The Biscarrosse Lakes are tranquil and provide a haven for all sorts of wildlife. Fishing and boating are available or you can just relax by the lakeside.
The third area is the Nature Reserve which is set in the pine woods near the lakes. Here you can walk and see deer, and some very colourful bird life.
There are villages around each area which reflect the settings. The whole area is set in lovely rolling countryside that can be explored easily using a hire car. This is a slightly unusual venue that is well worth giving some time to. To get the best from it be prepared to walk a little and get slightly off the beaten track.
