Arcachon town guide
By hire car Arcachon is less than an hour from Bordeaux via the N 250 This is a delightful small seaside town with a surprising variety of architecture and activities on offer. It is a popular place for the people of nearby Bordeaux to visit on summer evenings or for day trips.
The local Tourist Office describes Arcachon as the town for all seasons, pretty coloured houses and cottages set off by flowers in the Spring and surrounded by pine trees, a boulevard with no less than three piers and lots of market stalls in the Summer close to the superb beach. In the autumn the fishing village known as L'Aiguillon St Ferdinand within the town takes centre stage leaving the shopping areas for the Winter. There is certainly something for all visitors at any time.
Boating enthusiasts will find plenty to do here and the sea food is excellent especially the oysters.
Arcachon is also the site of the largest sand dune in Europe Le Dune du Pyle and nearby a bird sanctuary called Le Teich.
