Angouleme town guide
Hire car drivers who are also fans of Tintin, Asterix, and other French cartoon characters will want to visit this city which is the Centre of the cartoon industry. Each year there is a festival in January which celebrates this art form. As most people do not take their holidays in January it is more likely that you will want to visit the Centre National de la Bande Dessinee et de I'Image, which is a museum about cartoons and how they are made.
The reasons for the cartoon or comic strip industry starting in Angouleme are probably based on the traditional paper industry that has flourished in the town since the seventeenth century.
Angouleme can also be visited each year in June for a Classic Motor Race which runs around the ramparts, the same place where you can stroll and enjoy the view of the River Charente that flows through the valley two hundred and fifty feet below.
