Ajaccio town guide
Situated on the A193 on the way from the Corsican Airport at Corte, Ajaccio is easily reached in your hire car. August 15th every year is important for this small town as the residents celebrate the birthday of their most famous resident, Napoleon Bonaparte. The town contains many reminders of Napoleon's life including the Salon Napoleonien which houses his decorations and medals.
Visitors have a choice of wandering along the tree lined promenade behind the beach or strolling through the shady tree lined streets. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants from which to watch the world go by.
Either way you are likely to end up on the Jetee de la Citadelle where you will be tempted to take to the water in one of the boats for hire on a cruise. The Islands that you can see are called the Sanquinaires or the bloody ones, this is because of the red colour that they take on when being viewed at sunset.
Beach lovers should use their hire car to visit Tahiti Plage which is about three miles out of the town, despite its name this beach has all the services and is clean and well maintained, good for children.
